SWALLOWING IS A HOBBY!

It is easy to swallow the project sanctioned amount than earning through prompt methods. This has become the lifestyle of the present system of democracy in our country. Many factual examples and evidences could be given. One of them is narrated here.

The central Govt. had released Rs. 4 crore for the development of tribal colony at Malambi, Reshmehadlu, and Yavakapadi and Mutharmudi villages in Kodagu. The development scheme included children education, health care and improvement of the financial status of the families and also the formation of approach roads to these villages.

The scheme was entrusted to District Tribal Development Project Department.

When the scribes visited these places, the worst condition of these tribe families is clearly visible.

The approach roads are not metalled, soling is not done. Just a layer of tar could be seen on the top of soil, which is out of motorable conditions. The rain water on the road is converted to muddy filled surface without the formation of drainage system. Even, the residents could not walk on these roads.

The asbestos sheets used for roofing have fallen, the walls are dilapidating, the bills are drawn for the labour contract. But, the tribes disclose: the work is done by them only and they have not been paid a single pai.

Two three families live in single houses. But they have not been provided separate house. However, a community hall is built without providing any facility for conducting ceremonies or functions and the building has become a “Ghost House!” The big lock welcomes the tribes. The hospital building is also not been inaugurated and just shown as witness to the spent amount shown to the Govt.

The ginger seeds are distributed for 200 tribes. But the cost shown for a bag of ginger seed in the records reveals Rs. 3486. The actual cost is only Rs. 1500 per bag. Where the difference amount gone? Even, the cultivation hardwares are supplied in abnormal rates. For example the Rs. 500 worth hardwares are supplied for Rs. 3500 as per the shown records.

A tiller which is not at all needed for the dry crop cultivation in these areas has been supplied by the department. The tiller has become the play instrument for the children which is lying dead.

The tribe leaders Byra, Mutha, Raja, Basava, Thammu and others painfully narrate the story with an unhelpful sense.
