HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE STRANDED;

Hundreds of people are stranded in the midst of water at Hodavada Bolibane, 30 KMS from here and Napoklu, 29 Kms from here.

Around 25 houses at Hodavada Bolibane are islanded as the level of flood has closed all approaches to their houses. The floodwaters are threatening over hundred people in this area as water started rising since yesterday night. People stranded in the area told this correspondent over telephone that no officials visited the area. They said that water would enter their houses if it raises three more feet.

An Sc St colony in the area is also threatened.

Four houses were completely submerged at Nellihudikeri and officials have asked about 125 houses to be vacated immediately.

Picture is grim even at Napoklu and Bhagamandala.

MLA Mr.Jivijaya visited some of the affected areas and urged the government to release relief funds. He said that Somwarpet taluk has incurred a loss of 25 crores and mr.Kharge has assured to release rupees fifteen crores now.


SOMWARPET EARTH SHAKING;

The geologists from Madikeri visited Somwarpet and experienced the shaking of earth. They advised the residents to vacate their houses and not to risk their lives.

Meanwhile a lake bund has broken at Shanivarsanthe today submerging hundreds of acres of africultural fields. The farmers said that they had never seen such a calamity in the past 20 years. Officials who visited the spot stated that repair work couldn’t be undertaken till the water drains out.

LAND AT SOMWARPET SHAKES AGAIN!

Residents of Ranger block at Somwarpet yesterday ran helter skelter as the land below their feet started trembling. They spent night at far off places as the earth was making terrible noise from beneath. But the nightmare continues even today. An eye witness told this correspondent that they heard sound at least 200 times since yesterday.

According to residents they heard a noise around 6.30 P.M, which was ignored as it was raining heavily. However at 9.40 land started trembling and they could feel the shaking. Vessels and furniture shook for some time. But the sound did continue. They stated that the sound was heard like the friction between rocks, which would often explode.

Former MLA Mr.Appachu ranjan and other BJP members today visited the area and spoke to the residents. The visiting team also heard the sound at the time of inspection. Mr.Ranjan has urged immediate action from the district administration and government.

Meanwhile the cracks developed at Biligeri Rajan Bane area is widening. Deputy commissioner Mr.Subodh Yadav told that he is expecting expert opinion in a day or two and act accordingly afterwards.

The people of Kodagu are disgraced about the silence of the district in charge minister Mr.Srinivas who never visited the district after the rain fury. Hundreds of hectares of agriculture land in the district are inundated causing heavy loss.

HARANGI OVERFLOWS;

Incessant rainfall in the western ghat has been pushing high inflow of water to Harangi reservoir. It painted a baffling picture yesterday with water over flowing the maximum limit. Twenty thousand cusecs was the inflow and out flow was 27,329 cusecs. People living on the banks are shifted to safety.

Meanwhile the revenue minister mr.Praksh has assured another three crores to Kodagu as flood relief.


LEARNING OF ENGLISH INEVITABLE;

Learning of English is inevitable and is a must to survive in the rapidly growing world, said former minister Mr.M.C.Nanaiah.

Addressing a function at Morarji residential school at Basavanahalli near Kushalnagar, Mr.Nanaiah said that the failure from the side of the government in implementing the recommendations by the experts committees is the result of down fall in education level.

Professor Nanjunda, DDPI H.S.Sampath Kumar and others spoke on the occasion. ZP member mr.Nagesh spoke on the occasion.CEO of Zilla Panchayath mr.Sundar naik presided over the function.
