HOLIDAYS EXTENDED TO SCHOOLS;

As rivers and streams continue to flow at spate the district administration today declared three days holiday to schools from tomorrow.

District recorded eight inches more rain this year with an average of 68.68 inches till yesterday. Last year it had rained 60.63 inches.

Talacauvery registered the highest rainfall of 180 inches till yesterday. Bhagamandala Bridge is inundated and link roads to Napoklu, Aiyyengeri are blocked. Electricity connection to Talacauvery is cut since three weeks and many villages are without it since two weeks.

People living in hilly regions and as well as on the river banks are advised to go to safety as falling of trees and landslides have become very common in the district.

Its been raining more than three inches each day with and exception of Pushpagiri, bhagamandala and Talacauvery which are receiving more than nine inches.

50 CRORE LOSS;

The state chief minister Mr.Dharam Singh has appraised the center about the rain damages and has said that the state has so far incurred a loss of more than 100 crores. Out of this, he has said that Kodagu has incurred a loss of fifty crores.

The center has reportedly released rupees twenty crores out of Prime Ministers relief Fund.

Meanwhile, KPCC member Mr.T.P.Ramesh has charged against the district in charge minister Mr.Srinivas and said that he has not bothered to visit the district in spite of the calamities.

DISTRICT JAIL TO BE SHIFTED;

Chief Minister Mr.Dharam singh has disclosed that the government with the assistance of the center has sanctioned rupees 2.54 crores for shifting the district prison in Kodagu to a better place.

He disclosed the fact in a letter written in reply to a question raised by MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah .

The present prison in Kodagu is situated in a old building which was considered as un fit to house prisoners as long back as 1930s.The British officials had pointed it out in the gazetteer which had never caught the attention of the previous governments.
