EXCISE INCOME INCREASED IN LEAPS AND BOUNDS;

The new Excise policy has increased income to the government exchequer in leaps and bounds, according to the Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Mr.Jayaramraje urs.

Mr.Urs, who was here told this correspondent that the Dharam Singh government has made significant changes in the excise policy and this has resulted in the increase of income, increase of arrack consumption, control over the trade and quality.

He said that increase from the arrack revenue has given 300 crores of rupees more to the government in the present year. While the government had earned rupees 1059.60 during last year has already earned rupees 1400 crores in the present year due to change in policy. He said that there is improvement in IMFL transaction too and together the revenue goes to rupees 2600.

The government has now slashed the excise duty drastically from rupees 12 to rs 2 per liter. Changing the MSIL monopoly privatized distribution and manufacturing. While MSIL is closed down, the Spirit required for the manufacturing of arrack is being procured and distributed only through the KSBCL, a corporation floated by Krishna government. While the new changes have brought the rate of arrack down, its sale has considerably gone up.

Even in Kodagu the revenue this year was increased from Rs.1.85 crore to Rs.2.90 crores.
