AMMAKODAVAS CALL FOR UNITY;
Ammakodavas in the district held a conference for the first
time at Virajpet and called to unite. Inaugurating the conference, Zilla Panchayath president
Mrs.Chitra Ramesh called upon the community members to preserve the culture and
tradition. The conference passed a resolution to release a dairy
containing the addresses of the community members, to build a Samaj, to form a
federation etc. chief orator Mr.Bananda Subbamaiah, retired district judge said
that the community’s origin leads to a Brahmins family. He regretted that much is not done to preserve
and develop the ideals of the Ammakodavas and called upon the members to
educate their children so as to
continue the heritage. Mr.ganapamaiah Changumaiah, Mrs Kasturi and others addressed
the gathering.A souvenir was released on the occasion. Earlier Cauvery pooja
was performed. While Mr.Kechamaiah welcomed, Ganesh proposed vote of
thanks.Shilpa and Anupama compered the programme. Later a cultural programme

The temple authorities of Bhagamandala and Talacauvery
disclosed that the two temples earned rupees sixteen thousand more in the
present year, compared to last years collections during Cauvery festival. They stated that a total of rupees 2,04,645 was collected
against rupees 188,453. While rupees 99,175 was put in the cash box of
Talacauvery, rupees 1,07, 829 was found at Bhagamandala Bhagandeshwara temple. STABBING AT SOMWARPET;
Police arrested six persons involved in a fight and stabbing
at Somwarpet . According to police, group clash broke at Somwarpet during the celebration of Ayuda pooja. Violence erupted as two persons resorted to fighting . Groups were formed immediately and ruckus was created. A subinspector and a constable also sustained injuries, while the injured person Ningappa was hospitalized with stabbing injuries. |
