MURDER TURNS TOWN VIOLENT Killing of an agriculturist at Kushalnagar yesterday turned the town violent and police resorted to lathi charge. Violence broke as an agriculturist, Ganesh was shot dead by one Diwakar inside a stone quarry near Kushalnagar. Ganesh was shot as a verbal clash between the two, as to who should lift the jelly stones first from the quarry turned violent. The accused rushed to his house after the clash and returned with a SBBL gun. Shooting Ganesh to death hiding behind a bush, he shot at another laborer working in the quarry and injured him on the thigh. He later fled the scene. The duo had come to the quarry with their tractors. The accused left the scene leaving the tractor behind. People from around the town and villages rushed to the spot as news spread like wild fire. The mob burnt the tractor belonging to the accused and rushed to his house. The house was ransacked and damaged. Police arrived on the spot and resorted to lathi charge as the crowd attempted to attack the sister of the accused. The ambulance van which arrived to put the fire off was also attacked. A circle inspector and four constables sustained minor injuries in the clash. Police took to custody few people including the brother of the accused and lodged them at Kushalnagar police station. This enraged the crowd which gathered before the station again. Police caned the mob again which was demanding the arrest of the accused and release of the relatives of the deceased. Former MLA Mr.Appachu Ranjan who arrived at the police station took to task the officials to have caned women and children. He urged the release of the persons taken to custody. While relatives of the deceased were released, case against four was registered for obstructing police from performing their duty. Police forces from Mysore and Hassan districts were invited as the tension mounted at Kushalnagar till night. Situation is cooling down today.
PROTEST AGAINST LOTTERY SALE The unit of Stree Shakthi in Kodagu has announced that a protest is organized on this 25th against the sale of two numbered lottery. Addressing a press conference, office bearer of the unit, Mrs.Monti Ganesh said that they will launch protest in front of the Deputy Commissioners office. She disclosed that the protest is being launched as the district administration failed to cancel the sale in spite of an ultimatum, served by them earlier. |
