58,000 CHILDREN TO RECEIVE POLIO DROP;

 

The Deputy Commissioner Mr.Srikanth Valgadh told that about 58,000 children in the district would be vaccinated on this tenth.

 

Addressing scribes here, the Dc said that the fifth phase of vaccination, out of the six would be held on tenth. The last phase would be held on November 21st. The government is determined to wipe out the disease totally, he informed.

 

He said that 461 centers would be opened to administer polio drops.

 

 

DASARA PROGRAMMES TO BEGIN;

 

The Dasara Cultural programme committee president Mr.G.Chidvilas has informed that the nine day cultural extravaganza will begin at Madikeri from this fifteenth.

 

A communiqué said that cultural troupes from all over Karnataka will entertain the audience for nine days.

 

 

CHAIN OF THEFTS ROCKS THE TOWN;

 

In an added disgrace to the failing security system in the district, miscreants broke open few departmental offices at Madikeri yesterday night.

 

MESCOM office, situated at a close range from the police station was broke open and its strong room doors and windows were also broken by miscreants at night. Attempts to break the cash container were failed and miscreants ransacked the office and returned with tools and cutting players.

 

The miscreants later moved to the State Employees Association society and broke the lock. The complaint said that a cash of rupees 2,500 and other materials were lifted from there.

 

Later the thieves broke into the Animal Husbandry department. The authorities said that they have to assess whether medicines were stolen. Moving from here, the miscreants tried to break the locks of jeep shed where two jeeps belonging to Animal Husbandry department were kept. However their attempt here failed.

 

Police dogs pressed to service walked upto bustand. Residents of Madikeri expressed concern and said that the chain thefts are recurring every often in the town as though no policing exists here.

 

Meanwhile, a duo snatched a purse containing 21, 000 from a lady at Kushalnagar yesterday. The complainant Mr.Ganapathu said that a boy and a girl snatched his purse containing the cash, just drawn from Canara Bank neat a vegetable shop and fled.
