POLICE PROTECTION TO SWAMIJI:Police have provided protection to Vivekananda Swamiji of Kavery Ashram since he has been receiving threatening calls. According to them, an anonymous caller had been threatening to kill Swamiji for no reason. The caller is yet to be identified and Ashram is being guarded by police. Swamiji however is planning to leave for Bangalore to avoid receiving any more threats. RAILWAY BOOKING EARNING PROFIT;The Railway ticket-booking counter at Madikeri is earning profit and the turnover is on the increase. Opened hardly a year ago, the transactin in the unit has been doubling. The Office in charge here, Mrs Bhagya Lakshmi told this correspondent that the turnover which was rupees 1,82,722 in the month of April shot upto rupees 3,93,400 during October. She said that Service personnel who keep traveling do most of the advance bookings. The mark of growth in the graph has convinced the Railway officials who were in two minds to continue the booking office here. There are proposals to increase the size of the present small office into big one. Mrs Bhagya Lakshmi observed that the local residents are hardly making use of the booking, except those who are in service. PROTESTING DALITHS ARRESTED;Somwarpet police yesterday arrested members of the Dalith Samithy at Somwarpet. The members were arrested as they tried to lock the mini Vidhana Soudha building at Somwarpet to protest against the step motherly attitude by the Tahasildar and his staff. The protestors led by B.N.Nanjunda and others alleged that the revenue officials are ignoring the Daliths and are failing to provide them benefits and service. The protestors blocked the police jeep as their leaders were arrested. However, they were released soon after the arrest. The protestors renewed their protest again and placed seven demands like providing green card etc. |
