ELEPHANT KILLSA man was killed by a wild elephant at Sulugodu village in Somwarpet thaluk. Ponnappa (42) was walking with 5 other villagers towards his house at 8 P.M on 26th after he completed the sorting of paddy crops in his fields.Suddenly a group of elephants chased them. Other 5 persons climbed the trees and escaped unhert. Ponnappa was attacked by an elephant while he was trying to climb a tree.He died on the spot. The forest officials who visited the aspot announced Rs. One lakh compensation to the victim’s family and have given Rs. Two thousand immediately. EMPLOYEES UNION TO RETALIATEThe Kodagu District employees union warned retaliation against “Kaveri Sene” an orgonisation .The Office beaers Kumarswamy,and Sadanand criticised the convenor Ravi Chengappa of Kaveri Sene who is trying to manipulate the public grievances by threatening the employees and officials in the district for his personal gains.In an incident at Reaja Seat, the garden area Ravi Chengappa and his gang forcibly made the 4th class and SC employee Kenga to drink the water. They were alleging the dirty maintenence of the water tank. They could have protested in proper way .But they manhandled the worker and harassed him –said the employees union office beares in a press meet here. Kenga, the worker had already compalined to the town police who have registered case under atrocity act. PLEDGED TO FIGHT FOR KODAVA CAUSEThe Kodava National Council (CNC) has pledged itself to fight for the Kodava cause-said N.U.Nachappa, the CNC Princiapal Covenor in a press conference here after he returned back from New Delhi finishing the “Delhi Chalo” Programme by the orgonisation. The Kodava Culture, tradition and their political and finacial freedom should be protected by providing special security under the constitution- Nachappa explained. The Central defence minister Mr. Pranab Mukherji and the Congres National President Smt. Sonia Gandhi have responded to the demands made by the orgonisation in favour of kodavas. In the various seminars held at Delhi the scholars like Prof. Balavir Arora,Thrilochan singh,T.K.Oman,and Panini have attended.- he explained. A political leader from Kodagu had become the minister with the support of CNC and another leader became the Minister opposing the CNC orgonisation. However, no body had done anything for the Community although they were Kodavas- analysed Mr. Nachappa. |
