ELEPHANT MENACE CREATS RUCKUS;

The residents of Kalur village, a remote place denied of proper electricity and road facilities by the district administration hold their breath while walking around, even during daytime! The reason? Elephant menace.

A herd of elephants are rampaging paddy fields and destroying coffee and cardamom, along with plantain crops since a week. Shattered by crop loss and fear for their life, the villagers took a band of journalists to Kalur to show their plight.

The journalists had a shock of their life as a tusker threw in the air, an agriculturist almost in front of them, under bright Sunlight in the afternoon!

Joyappa, 55, working in his cardamom estate was taken by surprise by the tusker, which threw him in the air. He was also trampled by the pachyderm, which left him alive as his dog came barking at the Elephant. People had to carry him to the vehicle through the narrow path by tying him to wooden poles. The only vehicle that could reach the village is a four-wheeler. The injured was lucky enough as the jeep journalists were taken over there was readily available to shift him to the hospital.

He was however shifted to Mangalore with multiple bone fractures and tore off ears.

The villagers led by Mr.Ravi Thammaiah have threatened to launch severe protest if the forest department fails to control the menace.

Meanwhile latest reports said that another herd has damaged Areca, cocanut, coffee and other plantations around Napoklu yesterday.

SPINSTER MURDERED;

Her employee in her estate house at Hangal near Somwarpet murdered Ramakka, 55.

According to police, Ramakka’s estate writer Anand allegedly murdered her and stole a gold chain, a week back. The brother of the deceased became suspicious as his sister was mysteriously missing since a week. The villagers questioned Anand who admitted to the crime.

Yesterday police searched the spot and recovered the buried body. The accused had killed the spinster by hitting her with a shovel. Anand was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
