PROTESTORS OBSTRUCT KASARAVALLIS SHOOTING;Protestors led by Hindu organizations yesterday obstructed the shooting of a film ‘Achala’ being directed by Girish Kasaravalli at Madikeri. The shooting was going on at the famous monument of Veera Rajendra, who ruled Kodagu at Gadduge. Produced by actress Thara as her maiden film, Achala was a story of rebel Muslim woman. The protestors took serious objection as the structure of Gadduge was converted into a prayer house for the purpose of shooting. The sets were removed, as the protest turned hotter. Tahasildar, police and other officials arrived at the spot and pacified the protestors. Mr.Kasaravalli stated that he has obtained permission from the Archeological department for the film shooting. This enraged the protestors. However, the officials advised the filmmakers not to hurt the sentiments of the people and continue the work accordingly. The shooting however was stalled yesterday. The sets were totally removed from the The police frisked actress and producer Thara to a safety. COUPLE SET THEMSELVES ABLAZE;In a bizarre incident, a couple set themselves ablaze in an attempt to commit suicide at Haleyur near Bylakuppe, yesterday. As husband succumbed to burning, the wife is struggling for life at K.R.Hospital, Mysore. Police said that one Murthy and his fife had a verbal brawl before the incident took place. Later both of them decided to die by pouring kerosene and setting themselves ablaze. The husband died on the way to hospital. The articles inside the house are totally gutted due to fire. MISAPPROPRIATION BY A PANCHAYATH MEMBER;Villagers of Chembebellur have complained to the Mandal Panchayath that an elected member has misappropriated lakhs of rupees by undertaking works in his sons name. They have specified the works he undertook and alleged that they were of substandard and half done. Money was plundered in roadwork, incomplete work of a community hall, digging a well etc. But the funds are drawn in full, they allege. Failing to initiate action will lead to protest, they have warned. |
