A SENSATION JAYENDRA SARASWATHI CREATED IN 1987;

Acharya Jayendra Saraswathi  had created Nationwide anxiety during 1987, August by leaving the Mutt, without informing anyone.

A Nation wide search was on to trace him as the then president of India; Mr.Venkataraman was also interested in him. Four days after his escape, he was traced at Talacauvery, Kailas Ashram. The credit of tracing him went to the correspondent of UNI at Kodagu, Mr.B.G.Anantha Shayana.

As UNI informed to the Kanchi Mutt that Swamy was traced,there was great jubiliation.

Jayendra Saraswathi had abdicated his seat as Peetadipathi, leaving the Mutt suddenly in the wee hours of one Sunday and taking by surprise every one including the Paramacharya Chandrashekarendra Saraswati.

In an exclusive interview to UNI, the senior saint who was named to head the Mutt in 1954 said, he spent 20 hours a day in prayer. He chose Talacauvery because it was the abode of sage Agastya. “I will not be leaving Sanyasa even if I leave Ashramavasa” he had told. Asked about his abdication of the Mutt leadership, he had told that he left only after making arrangements for his successor. However he had denied any misunderstanding with the Mutt. Staying for few more days, Swamiji had said that he wish to stay at Talacauvery if his devotees allow him to do so. However, he left Talacauvery after a weeks stay and returned to Kanchi Mutt.

LAND HOLDERS PRESS FOR RIGHT OVER TREE;

The land holder of Kodagu have decided to lead a delegation to the Chief Minister to press their demand for right over the tree.

In a meeting held here yesterday, the former MLCs Mr.M.C.Nanaiah, Mr.A,K,Subbaiah and MLC Mr.Arun Machaiah  dealt in detail the need to claim ownership of the trees grown in their own respective lands. The leaders alleged that the act, which clearly gives right over the tree, was twisted by the vested interests in the garb of government officials and that is misleading the government.  They stated that an action  committee consisting of representatives from all the organizations, parties and religion should be formed to fight for the right.

President of the Akila Kodava Samaj, Mr.Matanda Monnappa chaired the meeting.
