SPIRIT WORTH RS.1.5 LAKH SEIZED; Police and forest sleuths have
seized spirit worth rupees 1.5 lakh being transported to Kerala from Kodagu,
yesterday night. According to police, a lorry
with Tamilnadu registration zoomed off from Bhagamandala checkpost, without
stopping. Later it was seized at Chemberi gate in Kerala border on the tip
off.However, the lorry was found empty at first sight. On inspecting, the
sleuths discovered a huge box beneath the body and found 28 cans with spirit.
Cans were also hidden under seats in front cabin. One person was arrested,
while two others absconded. Spirit was smuggled from a Brewery at Kengeri, according to the arrested. Spirit that is available between thirty and forty rupees here would be sold at rupees 150 to 160 in Kerala. Half a dozen cases of smuggling the spirit to Kerala was revealed in months time in Kodagu. VEERASEIVAS’ LAY CLAIM ON INAM LANDS; President of the district unit
of Veera Sheiva Mahasabha, Mr.Mahadevappa told this correspondent that they are
laying claim over five thousand acres of land being gifted to Mutts by the then
Kings. He said that the five thousand
acres of land was gifted by the then Kings to around Veera Sheiva Mutts in
Kodagu. However, except five or six Mutts which have small holdings today, rest
were either sold or leased out to others. Companies like TATAs and Chettiars
bought such lands in hundreds of acres. Mahadevappa stated that the state government through an amendment has decided to abolish such lands since no religious activities are going on, for which purpose the lands were donated. According to him, the Mahasabha has decided to acquire such lands through court and re start the activities. DIES IN ROAD ACCIDENT; Mandappa, 26, working in a
private company at Bangalore died due to an accident. Mandappa crashed against two motorbikes which had fallen near ring road in Bangalore, after the accident on October 30. He was shifted to Manipal hospital in a coma stage. And he breathed his last yesterday in the hospital. SCRIPT NOT REQUIRED INCLUD LANGUAGE INTO 8TH SCHEDULE; Political pandith and social
rformer Mr.T.K.Oman opined that script is not a must for any language to be
included to 8th schedule. He was addressing a Codava
National Council seminar in New Delhi yesterday. Continuig he said that Kodava
language could be included into the schedule with Kannada as its script. He also said that Kodagu can
well be considered as Kodava Land in the lines of Gorka Land, Bodo Land etc. Many eminent speakers addressed the seminar chaired by Mr.N.U.Nachappa. |
