WATER WATER EVERY WHERE, NOT A DROP TO DRINK;

 

This could be an adage or a poet’s imagination, but it suits well to the situation at Talacauvery, where Cauvery takes birth.

 

A cluster of villages with over 200 families around Cauvery complain that they find it hard to get a drop of drinking water even though Mother Cauvery is satiating the thirst of Karnataka and Tamilnadu, the people living at the foothill of Brahmagiri are denied its use.

 

The villagers allege that the Kundacheri village Panchayath had provided drinking water to a cluster of villages by making use of the natural water. Even the Zilla Panchayath provided water connection by laying pipes through the forests during 2001. But their efforts went in vain with the passing of time. While half the pipes are damaged, remaining half were stolen by miscreants.

 

The villagers complain that the Village Panchayath is turning a blind eye towards the problem and sitting over their demands. They state that the Panchayath has stopped collecting water tax and shows no sign of improving the condition.

They are planning a protest to demand their right to have drinking water.

“It’s a pity that the authorities fail to provide drinking water even when we are surrounded by river Cauvery”, they regret.

 

 

STREE SHAKTHI TO PROTEST BEFORE SP, DC’S OFFICE;

 

The Stree Shakthi members have informed that they are staging protest before the offices of SP and DC at Madikeri tomorrow.

 

They stated that the protest is being organized to press the authorities to investigate the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl by a lad of 18 at Napoklu, recently. They alleged that the boy is implicated.

 

 

BOY COMMITTS SUICIDE;

 

Harsha aged 18-committed suicide yesterday by consuming poison. A resident of Katakeri, the deceased was the son of a college principal, Mr.Kadyamada Nanaiah.
