GOVERNMENT TO RELEASE RS. 39 CRORES TOWARDS COFFEE INTEREST;

 

The agriculture minister Mr.Srinivas Gowda told here yesterday that the government would shortly release rupees 39 crores proposed earlier towards the waiver of interest on coffee loan procured by planters.

 

Addressing the scribes at Kushalnagar during a private visit, he said that the files are awaiting final approval from the finance department. He said that the proposal prepared by the then Krishna government was considered by the present government to help the growers reeling under problems.

 

He also disclosed that the government has released insurance amount of rupees 272 crores on agriculture which was pending since a year. The banks are advised not to adjust this amount to the loans by the farmers but to release cash to them, he said. He assured to develop Kudige Farm which has 304 acres of land after the encroachments by private persons.

 

The minister stated that a work force would be formed to develop the area, which houses about 14 government departments. He also disclosed that house sites would be distributed to homeless agriculturists in about 19.6 acres of land.

 

 

RAMESH AS PRESIDENT;

 

Mr.T.P.Ramesh is elected to Kannada Sahitya Parishath, Kodagu as the president. In a election held here yesterday, Mr.Ramesh received 67 votes, while the past president and contestant Mr.Rajshekar received 45 votes. Three votes were rejected.

 

 

WOMEN TO OPPOSE SALE OF LOTTERY;

 

Members of different women organizations have decided to stage a protest at Gonicoppal against the sale of twin number lottery.

 

The president of the combined organization Mrs.Sarala Vasanth informed that people are suffering due to loss of money being wasted on lottery.

 

 

GUDDEMANE APPAIAH SMARAKA;

 

MlA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah stated that a memorial of Guddemane Appaiah would be constructed at Madikeri to honor the freedom fighter who lost his life for the cause of Kodagu during 1837.

 

He said that the memorial will come up at Nehru Park and rupees one lakh is being released from MP fund for the purpose. He was speaking at the 167th anniversary, held here yesterday. Mr.T.P.Ramesh and others spoke on the occasion.

 

 

WORLD WAR VETERAN DIES;

Maneyapanda Col.Belliappa, who had taken part in the Second World War died at his residence at Madikeri on 30th. He was aged 89 and leaves wife and children.
