VISHWANATH CALLS GOVT TO INTERFERE;

Former minister Mr.Vishwanath called upon the government to takeover all the temples including the Krishna temple at Udupi. Addressing a press conference here, Vishwanath said that he welcomes the suggestion by Pejavar Seer who advised govt to takeover the worshipping places. Stating that destroying the Kanaka Tower at Udupi was like destroying the culture, he invited like-minded people to support the rally organized at Bangalore on this 7th.

JDs LAMBASTS A.K.SUBBAIAH;

Office bearers of the district Janatha Dal S yesterday bombarded former vice president of state JDs. Ridiculing Mr.Subbaiah for condemning former Prime Minister Mr.H.D.Devegowda, the JDs leaders, led by its president Mr.V.P.Aiyappa said that Subbaiah is an opportunist who tramples every party he steps into. State secretary Mr.K.B.Shanthappa said that he had sought money to give him seat to contest. The speakers alleged that the fight lead by Subbaiah over the right to cut trees is to help the smugglers.

GOVET TO SOLVE RULES OVER CUTTING THE TREE;

State Law and Parliamentary affairs minister Mr.K.H.Patil yesterday told that the government will shortly decide on allowing cutting the trees by land owners. Mr.Patil who was on a private visit told that the government will look into the matter as there is demand from the district to streamline the rules to cut the trees for private use. Applauding the performance of Dharam government the minister said that it is succeeding in winning the hearts of the people through its package programmes. He also said that there is a group working to create confusion in the government and opined that they will be silenced through proper channels of law.

‘BAALALAYA’ INSTALLET AT TALACAUVERY;

Original statues of Lord Agastyeshwara, Shastatvu , Ganapathy were installed at ‘Baalalaya’ built at Talacauvery to takeup rejuvination work of the temples at Talacauvery yesterday.

Religious poojas and homas were performed under the guidance of Neeleshwara Tantri yesterday, while Cauvery Neeravari Nigama and district Temple rejuvination committee formally began the rejuvination work at a cost of rupees 10.5 crores.

The Nigama Managing Director Mr.Thimmegaowda handed over a cheque for rupees 6.71 lakh as a part payment to the Architect Mr.Muniyamgala Prasad.

Later addressing the scribes, Mr.Thimmegowda said that the rejuvenation and development works would be completed by May next.

TWO FROM COORG DIE AT SRILANKA;

Alagappan Chettiar,55 and his wife Muttuvalli aged 43, owning estate at Kodagu died yesterday in Sea rage at Srilanka.

Estate sources at Horur Karekolli Estate, owned by the deceased stated that the couple had been to Srilanka a week ago to attend a wedding. They were swept away by the sea from a beach side.

Incidentally they Alagappan happens to be the brother of the Chairman of the Karnataka Planters Association, Mr.Nagappan Chettiar.

Meanwhile the dead bodies are recovered and cremation would be held at Tamilanadu, a source said.

In another incident relating to the sea rage, a Maruthi Omni parked in Marina beach was swept away by the sea waters. The Omni belongs to a resident of Madikeri,Mr.Sabastin. A crying Sabastin called this correspondent from Chennai and said’ Saar, luckily me and my wife are saved”
