“BORDER BANDH”;

The Virajpet Taluk Action committee successfully conducted ‘Border Bandh’ yesterday by blocking traffic for hours to protest against the dilapidated condition of roads.

The protestors blocked the Highway linking Karnataka and Kerala at Makutta, Kutta, Siddapur and Thithimathi bringingto halt heavy traffic.

While wood and boulders were spread to block rtoad at one place, people in large number squatted in other places.

The agitation was withdrawn after the officials and MLC Mr.Arun Machaiah visited all the points and assured to repair the roads at the earliest. However, an ultimatum of fifteen days was given to officials to set the roads right.

JP EX CHIEF THREATEN TO COMMITT SUICIDE;

Former chairperson of Jilla Panchayath, H.B.Jayamma has threatened to commit suicide by self-immolation if the government fails to induct MLA Mr.B.A.Jivijaya into ministry. Jayamma was addressing a protest rally organized by congress workers at Somwarpet and Kodlipet.

The speakers expressed regret over the apathy by the government in recognizing Kodagu and said that Kodagu which generates largest fund to the government through tax is being ignored by governments. Traffic was blocked at Kodlipet for half an hour.

FARMERS COMMITT SUICIDE;

Unable to bear the burden of death, two more farmers have committed suicide, taking the toll to three in a week. Mr.K.S.Kumarshetty, 50, of Shanivarsanthe killed himself yesterday by shooting himself.

The deceased had borrowed lakhs of rupees from Banks and private parties for agriculture and surrendered to death as he could not earn much through crops or yield.

In another incident, Shankar Rao of Nallore committed suicide by consuming poison. Police stated that the deceased was overburdened by loan and it was the cause of death.
