AGRICULTURISTS STAGE PROTEST;

Various organizations of Agriculturists and Farmers staged hartal at Madikeri and urged the government to immediately withdraw order to seize the properties of borrowers.

Agitators including members of Stree Shakthi groups protested before the Deputy Commissioner’s office and Sub registrar’s office. The leaders Mr.Katti Mandaiah, Gopi Appaiah and others alleged that the government is showing a stepmotherly attitude towards the farming community and ruthlessly issued orders to recover loan by seizing the movable and immovable properties.

The Deputy Commissioner, after receiving the memorandum assured to brief the government about the protestors plight. The protestors threatened to hold district bandh and bl0ock roads, incase the government fails to reverse its orders.

HIGHWAY BANDH ON 20th;

Different organizations have called to protest the bad condition of roads in south Kodagu and block traffic in the high way on this twentieth.

The organizers have stated that bus owners and other vehicle organizations have assured their co operation. The road condition in south Kodagu, especially the Makutta road is in a pathetic condition. The officials have continuously ignored the demand by people to repair them.

FARMER COMMITTS SUICIDE;

A farmer, Girish, aged 36-committed suicide unable to bear the burden of debt. According to police, the deceased had borrowed money from a bank on agriculture.

Unable to repay the loan, he committed suicide by consuming poison at his house at Abburkatte at Somwarpet taluk.

WOOD AUCTION TO BE BLOCKED;

The district land owners have decided to block auctioning of wood at forest storehouses.

A press release from the Land owners said that they would block auctioning at Thithimathi and Kushalnagar to be held between 21 and 23.
