SHAKING THE MOVERS is a two-day workshop for children and youth (with a little help from their friends) to prepare comments and recommendations for governments and civil society with respect to:

1. The General Comment on Article 12 (participation rights) being prepared by the Committee on the Rights of the Child for all 193 States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. (Article 12)

2. Canada's upcoming report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child with respect to Canada's implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (due January 2009). (Article 44)

3. The voice of children and youth in health matters, especially aboriginal youth. (Article 24)

4. Canadian response to the recommendations of the UN Study on Children as Victims of Violence. (Article 19)

This workshop is an opportunity for child and youth to exercise their right to take part in important civil and political processes with the assurance that their voices will be heard and listened to.

On the evening of June 1 participants will be able to meet with Lieutenant General the Hon. Romeo Dallaire and listen to his reflections on the rights of young people in the wider world and the importance of preparation for civil and political leadership.
