Pendarvis and his mate Johnny Gibson both loved the blues and hillbilly music and formed a band, soon winning a talent contest on WDVH in Gainesville, Florida. With the prize came a one record deal with the small Scott label. Next they drove to Memphis to audition for Sam Phillips, who signed them to his Sun label. Three singles ensued, after which he formed his own company, Descant Records, working in tandem with Bill Lowery's NRC set-up in Atlanta. In the 90's he made his European debut at Hemsby, but froze on stage. He died a couple of years later in Cross City, just outside Gainesville.
