From: "Dik de Heer" Date: Sun Jul 14, 2002 2:17 am - UPDATED 6 JANUARY 2004 Subject: Born To Be With You : The Treniers THE TRENIERS (By Shaun Mather) Claude Trenier born 14 July 1919, Mobile, Alabama Died 17 November 2003, Las Vegas, NV Cliff Trenier born 14 July 1919, Mobile, Alabama Died 2 March 1983, Las Vegas, Nevada Twin brothers Cliff and Claude Trenier, the Treniers are one of the longest serving bands in rock history, although Cliff died nearly 20 years ago. After working in swing music with the Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra they steadily developed their sound into a jump blues style of rock 'n' roll. They anticipated some crucial elements of rock & roll with their solid, thumping beats, their squealing saxophone solos, and their song titles, such as "Rocking on Sunday Night," "Rockin' Is Our Business," and "It Rocks! It Rolls! It Swings!". The Treniers' brand of swing-cum-R&B was undoubtedly an influence on Bill Haley, who saw them when both acts were playing summer shows in Wildwood, NJ. Like many early R&B pioneers, they were unable to find success in the rock & roll era, though they appeared in a few of the first rock & roll films. They retained a strong following however and became a mainstay of the Vegas circuit, where The Treniers continue to perform today. Although 80 at the time, the show Claude gave at Hemsby recently was a brilliant display of showmanship and quality music. Recommended listening: They Rock! They Roll!
