Due to his father's executive role with Douglas Aircraft, Luke's early years were spent moving from state to state, until 1953 when the family found some stability in Hawaii. He learned to play the guitar and ukelele and appeared at Punahou High School where he was discovered by Bob Bertram who owned the Lariat and Bertram International labels. In May 1958, he issued Living's Loving You and Susie Darlin' on Bertram International. The record was leased to Dot records for the US mainland market, and soon hit the charts, peaking at # 5. Luke began touring with the likes of the Everly Brothers, Sam Cooke and the Kalin Twins and appeared on American Bandstand and The Perry Como Show. The follow-up Chicka-Chicka-Honey was issued the following year and Luke moved to LA to start University. Whilst still a student he covered the Marty Wilde song Bad Boy, but despite keeping him active on the package shows, it failed to register. He graduated in 1962 and by the mid-60's had left the music business altogether. Recommended listening: CD "Susie Darlin'" (Bear Family 15547)
