When you look at such talents as Billy Lee Riley who never really achieved
fame and fortune and then consider that someone with as weak a voice as Paul
Mac has been knighted, it makes you laugh/cry/sweat/swear.... The Beatles
started off as a skiffle group and were turned down by Billy Fury when he
was seeking a backing unit. They made their name doing for the most part,
lame Everly/Buddy style songs. They found their own style of music once
they'd become whacked out of their heads (considerable head in Paul's case)
on LSD. Once Lennon had had enough of pompous Paul, the group split up.
After years of riding the rock 'n' roll train on the coat-tails of a real
talent,
John Lennon, Paul McCartney made his own mark with such classics
recordings as the Froggie Chorus and Mull of Kintyre (puke!). A karaoke
album, Run Devil Run, proved that a classic rock 'n' roll song could be
spoiled if the right combination of non-emotion and poor vocals were used.
An exhibition of his paintings is currently on show, the examples I've seen
show that he's equally as crap with a paintbrush. Long live Paul, your fans
deserve you.
