The trio only lasted for two years and only recorded a couple of dozen tracks, but such was the raw quality of their work that they have been revered in rock circles ever since. The extent of Burlison's involvement on the recorded work is hard to judge, as it is argued that the lead guitar on many of the Trio's classics came from Grady Martin. Regardless, the Rock 'n' Roll Trio won the Ted Mack Amateur Hour 3 weeks running and won a spot on the Coral roster, where they recorded the likes of Tear It Up, Oh, Baby Babe, Train Kept A Rollin', Please Don't Leave Me and Rock Therapy. Despite the brilliance of the songs, the group failed to get a hit and tragically parted. Both Johnny and Dorsey Burnette went on to fame and early deaths, but Burlison moved away from the music scene. He has become quite active again in his twilight years, even releasing his own album on Sweetfish Records but his live shows are quite often hampered by arthritis in his hands.
