THE PARLIAMENTS - by Al Kelly Many groups were called the Parliments but this short lived group from North Philly started out as the Imperials in '52 but had to change their name because of Little Anthony's group. They were hanging on the corner singing and searching for a new name and one of the members saw a discarded cigarette pack in the gutter, it was a Parliament package so that was their new name. Arnold Bennett sang lead. They all started out in junior high singing together and recorded their first and only single on Lenny Caldwell's Len label. Two of the members (James Frazier and Milt Harling) joined the Casinos and later sang with Eddie Carter's Carter Rays on their nite club act but never recorded with them.
