Couch scored two country hits during 1962 and 1963, with "Hello Trouble (Come On In)" (# 5) and "Did I Miss You" (# 25), both on Vee-Jay. "Hello Trouble" (also the title of his sole LP, issued in 1964) was also recorded by Buck Owens and several other country artists. Couch was active in music his whole life, writing and singing classic country and gospel. For many years he was a disc jockey on KZEE in Weatherford, TX. His association with Jim Shell led him to co-writing "Wild Girl" and "Sweet Louella" with Joe Poovey. Early released titles included "Five Cent Candy" (Starday, 1957), "Easy Does It" (Dixie, 1958) and "Downtown" (Mercury, 1960). Following the two country hits he went on to record for Monument, but further chart success eluded him and his last recordings emerged from sessions in Nashville in 1976. Forming his own band in the mid-'60s, he worked the Las Vegas circuit before coming back to Texas in the early '80s. He died last year after suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia with bone marrow necrosis for six months. White Label and Buffalo Bop have reissued some of his early titles and Dragon Street / Rollercoaster have released live performances from Big D Jamboree broadcasts on the CD's "Guys of the Big D Jamboree" and "The Big D Jamboree Live, Vol. 1".
