Vocalist/steel guitarist/composer/western swing bandleader. Immortalised by his boss, Bob Wills' memorable exhortation to "Take it away, Leon!" in the classic 1936 version of "Steel Guitar Rag", McAuliffe built an impressive career in Country music beginning with his lengthy tenure with The Texas Playboys (1935-43), he left to form his own western swing band and record for Majestic, Columbia, Dot, Starday, Capitol, Stoneway and MGM, as well as his own Cimarron label.
