One of the first independent producers. Operating from Phoenix, Arizona, his first chart success came in 1956 with Sanford Clark's "The Fool", written and produced by Hazlewood. His use of electronic and other tricks were an influence on Phil Spector. Lee collaborated intensively with Duane Eddy, 1957-1962, resulting in many hits and Duane's best work. Jimmy Bowen landed him a job at Reprise Records, where he produced many hits for Nancy Sinatra, including the # 1 "These Boots Are Made For Walking" (1966) and several duets with Nancy. He lived in Sweden for quite some time. In 1999 he gave his first solo performances as a singer since 1974, backed by his life-time friend Al Casey.
