LEE ANDREWS & THE HEARTS - by Al Kelly "I Wonder" is a sort of a lost song by Philly's Lee Andrews & the Hearts. Lee & the group had hit it big time with "Long Lonely Nights" b/w "The Clock" on Jocko Henderson & Barry Goldner's Mainline label and picked up nationally by Chess (Argo) and with a followup of "Teardrops", the group never was signed nationally with Chess so they continued to record for Jocko and his partners. They signed with the Casino label, which was originally owned by Bill Borelli & Nick Basillo (who both had tie ins with various Mummers groups in Philly and wrote material for them). Bill & Nick took on partners Jocko & Barry of Mainline and the first Casino record was picked up by United Artists "Try The Impossible" and next with "Glad To Be Here" b/w "Why Do I", next UA picked up "Maybe You'll Be There" (a later recording from the '54 version) b/w "Just Suppose, both hits across the USA. Here the group felt they wanted to go on their own and still back Lee but let Lee become a major single artist. They were still friends and recorded together but were not listed on this record. Lee Andrews was married to Eddie Custis's sister, Eddie became a Heart & Five Hearts, Eddie was a member of the Superiors too. My copy shows just "Lee Andrews". Lee drifted to several other labels and this record was never picked up by United Artists so it sort of got lost nationally.
