Played gospel music on the piano as a child but develpoed a taste for romping r&b ala Fats and co. She was house pianist at Jay Miller`s Crawley Louisiana Studio and from 1959 to 1966 played on a host of fine sessions by Lazy Lester, Lightnin` Slim and Lonesome Sundown amongst others. She also recorded fine solo material and duets with Ashton Conroy, many of which are garnered on the fine Flyright cd listed below. A fine mix of sassy movers like The Katie Lee, Baby Baby, No Bread No Meat and ballads like Glory Of Love and Sea Of Love. She also played piano on Phil Phillips original Sea Of Love. She also played with soul man Otis Redding`s band until his death in 1967. She missed that fateful gig as she was 8 months pregnant at the time. Shocked by the tragedy, her career dipped then until recording for Goldband and Arhoolie in the late 70s/early 80s. She toured Europe to acclaim in 1982 and this inspired her to record for Chicago`s top blues label Alligator, aided by stars like Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray and the Fab T Birds. After several succssful albums she suffered a stroke in 1993 andcut back on touring. She died on September 5th 1999, in League City Texas. A real two fisted mama.
