From: "Dik de Heer" Date: Sat Feb 16, 2002 1:55 am Subject: Born To Be With You : The Kalin Twins THE KALIN TWINS Herbert and Harold Kalin, born 16 February 1934, Port Jervis, New York The Kalin Twins were exponents of the "high school" genre, a diluted form of rock and roll that was very popular during the years 1958-1960. Their harmonies were clearly influenced by the Everly Brothers, but did not always come off. In the summer of 1958 they scored a # 5 hit with "When", their second release. In the UK, the song was an even bigger hit, rising to the very top of the charts. Subsequently, the twins were flown over to tour Britain, with Cliff Richard as an opening act. They had three further entries in the Billboard Hot 100, but each one peaked lower than its predecessor. All their recordings were made for Decca, most of them in New York City (with Jack Pleis and his orchestra), but there were also four sessions in Nashville, with the Nashville A-team. Their final record was a cover of Joe Brown's "A Picture Of You", a # 2 UK hit in 1962 (the Brown version, that is). CD: The Kalin Twins, When (Bear Family BCD 15597, released in 1992). 30 tracks, 7 of them previously unissued. Annotated by Jimmy Guterman.
