LOUDERMILK (By Shaun Mather) Born 31 March 1934, Durham, North Carolina Songwriter / pop-country singer / multi-instrumentalist. Although he had a fair amount of records released as an artist (sometimes under the alias Johnny Dee), it is as a songwriter that Loudermilk will be remembered. His first success came in 1956 when George Hamilton IV hit the Top Ten with A Rose And A Baby Ruth. The following year, as Dee he reached the charts himself with Sittin' In The Balcony (# 38), but he was outsold by Eddie Cochran's cover version. His own career never really got going but over the next decade he had plenty of writing successes, notably Waterloo (Stonewall Jackson), Tobacco Road (Nashville Teens), Ebony Eyes (Everly Brothers), Abilene (George Hamilton IV) and Indian Reservation (Paul Revere and the Raiders). He is now retired from the business and has spent the last twenty-odd years studying ethnomusicology. Bear Family released two CD's worth of RCA Victor recordings: "Blue Train" (BCD 15421) and "It's My Time" (BCD 15422) - Dik
