The Jive Five - by Al Kelly A really great sounding group who made maybe 4 or 5 hit records out of 22 releases. Many of their records never got the airplay but all were good records. They got their first break on Les Cahan's Beltone label with their first outing being "My True Story" in '61. The group from Brooklyn, NY had one of their members die before they recorded this song ("She's My Girl" - Beltone 2034) and two members left so lead singer Eugene Pitt got three members of the Cadillacs, J.R. Bailey, Bobby Phillips and Buddy Brooks to record this last release for the Beltone label. The release didn't get much air play since they were pushing the flip side "Rain", I always thought this was the better side. They then changed labels with Cahan's blessing, to the United Artists where they had "I'm A Happy Man" which became a hit. They never had another hit after that one and later recorded under the name "Jyve Fyve."
