Jimmy Elledge is best known for his version of "Funny How Time Slips Away" (# 22 pop in late 1961), a Willie Nelson composition that has become a minor classic. Though it is a typical example of the early sixties Nashville sound, it surprisingly failed to make the country charts. This was Jimmy's second single, produced by Chet Atkins, to whom Elledge had sent an audition tape. Atkins was sufficiently impressed to sign him to RCA. The B-side of hirst first single, "Swanee River Rocket" (RCA 7910) shows him to be an accomplished boogie woogie pianist. His best rocker is "Bo Diddley" (RCA 8042), which got a UK release on an RCA EP (RCX 7132) and is highly praised by Stuart Colman in the current issue of Now Dig This. After nine singles for RCA (1961-64), Elledge recorded for Sims, Hickory ("Pink Dally Rue" is his most interesting release for that label), Little Darlin' and 4 Star. "One By One" was a minor country hit in 1975 (on the Cash Box country charts). Elledge is still active in the music industry and lives in New Orleans nowadays. His most recent (country) CD is "Singing From The Heart" (1995).
