The two met accidentally in a Bell Gardens, California music centre in 1956 when Jerry was there to buy guitar picks while Eddie was picking up strings. At the time Eddie was working with future songwriting legend Hank Cochran. The un-related Cochran Brothers went to the studio with Capehart in early 1956 resulting in the Cash single Rollin'/Walking' Stick Boogie, which was released as by Jerry Capehart featuring the Cochran Brothers. The new association proved fruitful for Eddie as Capehart was a shrewd manager who soon helped him to secure a recording contract with Liberty, and ultimately a cameo role in the classic rock 'n' roll flick, The Girl Can't Help It. Both Eddie and Jerry were fine songwriters and their greatest collaboration came in the spring of 1958 with one of rock's anthems, Summertime Blues. Capehart saw further releases on Dot in 1958 (I Hates Rabbits/Scratchin' - as by Jerry Neal) and Crest in 1962 (Song of New Orleans/Theme For The Young And The Blue). Recommended listening: Any of the Eddie Cochran Rockstar releases.
