He developed a love for country and blues and like most youngsters at the time, he fell in love with the rock 'n' roll sounds of the mid-50's. He started singing and at 14 got his first high profile gig when he supported Hank Snow at a concert in Evansville, Indiana. In 1956 he signed with the Sims label and at Jim Beck's Studio in Dallas cut such rockabilly stormers as Hipshakin' Mama and Riverside Jump. Next he joined Viv Records where he cut two more gems in Buy A Car and I Want You. He looked to have it made when he joined Decca Records who released Mama Don't You Think I Know and Ruby Pearl. Before he could get fully into his stride he was dropped unceremoniously after Viv sold the rights of Buy A Car to Paramount. His career never recovered but he made a couple of great albums in the ensuing decades, particularly "Fiddle Fit Man" and held regular gigs in Hollywood, which attracted some healthy attention. He died a rockabilly hero and with an image to match his excellent voice. Recommended listening: Jack The Cat - Hydra. Rockabilly Music - Rollin' Rock.
