THE IMAGINATIONS - by Al Kelly If anyone went to a teenage dance back in the 60's, the last song was something special to many of us, some played Jesse Belvin's Goodnight My Love, or the many versions of The Dance Is Over and some played the Imaginations' "Goodnight Baby." I ran five record hops a week in the suburbs of Philly, no I didn't attend them all but just set them up, got a local DJ and got my 10% cut. I did run one hop at St. Eugene's for almost 6 years and did play theis song on occasion. A great song to end a dance with your special lover!!! The Imaginations were from Wantagh, NY and formed in '60. Frank Mancuso was the lead singer. Frank and the group hung around NYC and got to meet several of the label owners but because of Frank's connection to Bob Schwade, who owned the Music Maker label, they got their first recording session and this was their first release. The record did real well on the East Coast. Their second release also did well on the East Coast, which was leased to the Duel label for national distribution but that didn't help so the next move it was leased to the Philly Bomarc label. The next move was to the dinky small time Ballad label out of NYC with their only release but that was leased to the Laurie label but the record did nothing. Frank Mancuso joined the Marines and Bobby Caupin took his spot but they never recorded again and the group split up. Frank is now a member of the Legends of DooWop group with Jimmy Gallagher, Tony Pass and Steve Horn. They also backed Dion on his new CD.
