He formed the Rocky Mountain Boys in 1947, an aggregation whose numbers included future Driftin' Cowboy Felton Pruett on steel guitar. Releases on Gold Star and Royalty were unproductive, but things picked up when he joined Four Star. His successes earned him a spot on the RCA label in 1955, working with Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer. The late 50's and early 60's saw him gain a dozen top 20 country hits, including two monsters in Send Me The Pillow You Dream On and Please Help Me I'm Falling. The latter topped the country charts for no less than 14 weeks and also crossed over to the Billboard pop Top 10 (# 8). The hits got smaller although he returned to the Country top 10 briefly in 1967 with The Country Hall Of Fame. Inevitably, RCA lost interest just after the public did, and he moved to MGM, then Plantation, but the heydays were over. In 2001 he released a new CD, "Generations In Song".
