STEVE GIBSON & THE RED CAPS - by Al Kelly Steve was originally from the West Coast and in the 40's moved to NYC but in the 50's made Philly his home town. In '59, The group recorded about 10 sides for Frank Pignatore, a local nite spot owner on City Line Ave, who ventured into the music business by having small combos and bands perform at his resturant. Frank owned the Philly Rose, Casa Blanca & HiLo labels. Frank was close friends with fellow South Philly neighbor, Tony Mamarrella, who was in charge of the Bandstand show in Philly. Tony and Dick Clark started the Hunt label and had some success so Frank gave Tony & Dick, two sides for them to release on their label. It figured Clark would play it on the show and it would develop into a hit record (of course Clark & Tony ALWAYS got 50% of all publishing or else it didn't get play, just ask the Silhouettes, why they never had another hit after"Get A Job", the owner refused to give them the publishing and Clark killed them forever from Bandstand) The record got the play and live appearance but it never happened. Gibson died in '96
