From: Flippar Date: Tue Jan 8, 2002 5:21 am Subject: Born To Be With You - Elvis Presley ELVIS ARON PRESLEY Born January 8th 1935, Tupelo Mississippi , died August 16th 1977, Memphis Tennessee (allegedly). Parents were Gladys and Vernon Presley, Elvis was the only surviving child of twins, Elvis accepted the mispelling of his middle name as Aron though the correct biblical name is Aaron, (and he had an uncle Aaron) his older brother Jesse Garon died at birth and is buried in an unmarked grave in Tupelo, though there`s a marker in the family plot at Graceland. The family moved to Memphis Tennessee on November 6th 1948, where Elvis later attended Humes High School and began working for the Crown Electric Company. Fascinated by the wonderfulsounds coming out of radios, jukeboxes, churches and Beale Street, history waschanged when he called in at Union Avenue at Sun records and thanks to Marion Keisker initially, and Sam Phillips, Scotty and Bill, most of all, life as we know it changed forever in 1954. The seminal Sun recordings are beyond reproach. His life story has been told a thousand times, most accurately by Peter Guralnick`s 2 volume detailed biography - - Er hang on y`all know this stuff so Let`s hold it fellas that don`t move me, let`s getreal, real Gone fer a change Perhaps it happened thus in a parallel universe - After Elvis, Scotty and Bill cut those sizzling Sun cuts, Elvis became disillusioned with his lack of commercial success, the Opry failure and his burnt out Caddy. He took his mother`s advice and married his high school sweetheart Dixie Locke, opened a furniture store and became a shareholder in Crown Electric and had a houseful of kids. In later years he could be seen mumbling that he`d been a contender and that all Memphis music stemmed from him. Vernon had kicked out the unscrupulous dodgy "Colonel" who tried to infiltrate Bob Neale`s dealings. Colonel made Jimmy Rodgers Snow, known as the Beat, beat, beat bopper, into a mega star. Elvis lost out to Tommy Sands in an audition for a major tv role as the Singin`Idol, based loosely on Snow`s sudden rise to stardom. He later got a bit part in a Bilko episode playing a drafted rock star known as Bat Poone. Elvis became a very successful Golden Gloves middleweight (later a heavywight, nicknamed the Burger King). He joined the Blackwood brothers gospel group (he is now a successful tv preacher, shunning anyinterviews about his Hillbilly Cat days). His regular peanut butter n jam sessions with the Rev Al Green are a joy to behold at the Sunday church burger & fried banana brunch in Whitehaven Assembly Of God Church, featuring brother Lee Lewis onharpsichord, P. Wee King on banjo and Graceland on 10% of the door . Perhaps he had misgivings when he appeared on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour, the same night as local rock star Johnny Burnette, a former school friend and co-worker (who did sign with the Colonel and RCA). Johnny made his national earth shattering tv debut, filmed from the quiff up, with a rocked up overtly sexual Big Mama Thornton song. Johnny went on to Hollywood and Vegas whilst Elvis tried touting songs to Ricky Nelson but couldn`t afford the Greyhound fare to Hollywood (so he slept in the hobo jungle). Sam kicked himout when he tried gate crashing a Carl Perkins/Jerry Lee session. As consolation Johnny Cash let him carry his shopping home (all of Mr Lasky`sstock of black shirts n pants). Later he was nearly run over by gold recordingstar Billy Riley, who blamed his latest flame Natalie Wood, for covering his eyes with Jimmy Dean`s shades as he rode his gold Harley down to Saucerland mansion. Elvis was an usher at Jerry Lee`s 5th marriage to a 57 year old virgin granny just prior to Lewis` debut record breaking 5 month European tour in May 1958. He avoided National Service because of a pelvic injuryand a lip deformity. Snuffy Garret tried recording him with girlie chorus and strings out in Hollywood in the early 60s, on syrrupy pap like God, My Country & My Shep. Elvis claimed to have dated Marcus Smith`s sister but no one believed him. Elvis played guitar for Bill Black`s Combo in the early 60s but heresigned over a dispute about under payment. He was deeply hurt when Scotty Moore invited him to play on his 68 HumesHigh Comeback tv show and took his guitar off him andgave him a pair of spoons to play whilst local character Harlie Chodge cackled like a loon. He did narrate the life story of his hero Ral Donner in the movie This is Ral. Later he crashed his truck into Jerry Lee`s famed musical gates at Mothahupaland in Nesbitt in the mid 70s but avoided jail. One of his nephews became a member of Fleetwood Mac, one of his sons now tours playing with Scotty`s Blue Moon Boys trio (though rumour persists that GradyMartin not Scotty plays lead on those early rockabilly gems!!!) He was arrested but not charged when he punched out Albert Goldman, Johnny`s biographer for asking him questions about Johnny`s relationship with Scatter the chimp and his white panty fetish.Scatter later ran off with Bubbles, Michael Jackson`s other little playmate.Luckily Goldman died falling head first into a toilet on an aeroplane and flushed himself repeatedly to death. Elvis was quoted as saying Muh daddy always said he never knew any laptop player worth a damn. He made a profit selling his story Albert, What Happened to the Tupelo tabloids (and the Sun).
