THE DEL SATINS - By Al Kelly The Del-Satins were really unknown till '63 when they had a big national hit called "Feeling No Pain" which went Top 25 across the country. If you lived on the East Coast, you knew the group already by this record. It sold only in about five East Coast cites and was lost to the rest of the World. Five guys started together singing harmony on corners since the age of 7, these same guys stayed together till some record promoman heard them on the NYC subway one day. He ask if they were interested in recording a record. Well within 6 months, they had this record out with Stan Sommers on lead. The group did all the background singing for Dion from '62 till '64 where Dion had some big hits too. (thanks to this strong group) There was supposely a record out on End by this group, well it's by the Dell-Satins and was recorded in a practice tape several months before this record. The group went thru singers like they were a dime a dozen with Stan leaving and then Carl Parker took over lead but could never equal Stan Sommers voice. They continued to sing and record and after their Columbia hit, they moved to the B.T. Puppy label and put out some great records buy nothing ever happened. They had a big following even though half the original members left. The group has a two CD called the "Best of the Del-Satins, which I consider some great music. They do alternate cuts of the hits, they have guest singing with them but it's great Group Harmony. Some of the original members later joined the Johnny Maestro Brooklyn Bridge group.
