Sounds like a big statement, but one that is easy to justify. Whether you listen to his own, mainly self-written albums, his Eddie Cochran tribute CD or hear his fabulous guitar playing backing others, Darrel will leave you impressed. Probably best known for his devotion to the life and sounds of Eddie Cochran, he has released an exquisite album of not so obvious covers, toured the States with Eddie's old backing band, the Kelly Four, and co-written a book, Don't Forget Me. He has also toured the UK paying tribute to Eddie and Gene Vincent's 1960 tour, and has appeared in the Elvis musical on the West End stage. He is so much more than an Eddie clone though. Check out such tracks as Rockin' The Coconut Top and Gallupin', a rapid fire instrumental chockfull of early Blue Cap sounds. If it's just one album you wanna try first, I would recommend, Mobile Corrosion, a fine modern album. Probably the best way to enjoy the man though, is to go and see him live. He's a good looking booger and you'll marvel at his playing on the Gretsch. After cutting a hand-full of albums for as many different labels, Darrel is currently taking the plunge and setting up his own record label, Hunka Burnin' Records, a project which sees him take another positive step in a career which deserves to run and run.
