From: "Dik de Heer" Date: Thu Mar 28, 2002 1:15 am Subject: Born To Be With You : Charlie McCoy CHARLIE McCOY (By Shaun Mather) Born Charles Ray McCoy, 28 March, 1941, Oak Hill, West Virginia Charlie McCoy grew up in Miami, Florida where he learned harmonica at the ripe old age of 8. He was playing in local bands by his mid-teens and by the time he was 18 he'd been persuaded to move to Nashville by Mel Tillis. After an unsuccessful time he moved back to Florida but was back the following year. He played harmonica on Candy Man and Blue Bayou for Roy Orbison and was soon in demand for session work all over the city. Over the years he played on the following amongst hundreds of others; Elvis Presley "Big Boss Man", "High Heel Sneakers", Simon and Garfunkel, "The Boxer", Johnny Cash, "Orange Blossom Special", "It Ain't Me Babe", Johnny Paycheck, "Take This Job And Shove It", "Slide Off Of Your Satin Sheets", Tom T. Hall, "Old Dogs, Children, And Watermelon Wine", "I Love", George Jones, "He Stopped Loving Her Today", Tanya Tucker, "Delta Dawn, Jerry Lee Lewis, "What Made Milwaukee Famous", Waylon Jennings, "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line", Marie Osmond, "Paper Roses" and Ray Stevens, "The Streak". He also played on 5 Bob Dylan albums, including Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde On Blonde and Nashville Skyline. He made handfuls of solo albums starting with 1969's, The Real McCoy.
