From: "Dik de Heer" Date: Sun Jan 6, 2002 2:22 am Subject: Born To Be With You : Bobby Lord BOBBY LORD Born 6 January 1934, Sanford, Florida Country / rockabilly singer. Recorded prolifically for Columbia (1955-1961), Hickory (1962-1967) and Decca (1968-1972). Like so many country singers, Bobby turned to rockabilly in the years 1956-1957, when it looked as if rock and roll would wipe country music off the planet. His best known rockabilly record is probably "Everybody's Rockin' But Me" (written and originally recorded by Jack Turner on Hickory). Other recordings in this vein are "Beautiful Baby", "Fire Of Love", "Sack" and "High Voltage". However, his biggest hit was a straight country record, "Without Your Love" (# 10 country, 1956). Bobby had five other entries in the Billboard country charts during the years 1964-1970. Bobby Lord's career began on television and he continued to use the media effectively throughout the fifties (ABC-TV's "Ozark Jubilee", 1955-1960) and sixties (Grand Ole Opry, 1960-1969, and, from 1963, his own country music TV program, The Bobby Lord Show). Several of his more interesting Columbia recordings were released on the Demand LP "Everybody's Rockin'". But there is no CD release as yet, except for songs on scattered compilations.
