Meeting up with George Frayne, later known as Commander Cody, in his hometown Ann Arbor set the wheels of Kirchen's musical career into motion. The group played a mix of country, western swing and rock and roll and had five Top 100 hits 1972-1975, including the # 9 smash "Hot Rod Lincoln". The 1976 breakup of the Commander Cody band led Kirchen to form The Moonlighters, a swing orchestra. He struck up a friendship with British star Nick Lowe and toured internationally with his friend. By 1986 Kirchen had moved to the Washington D.C. area and formed a new band, Too Much Fun, that still exists today. In 1997 he signed with Hightone Records, for which label he has recorded three CD's so far, the most recent being "Tied To The Wheel" (2001). Held in high esteem both as a guitarist and as a vocalist, Kirchen has been instrumental in keeping the work of many musical pioneers alive. Homepage: http://www.billkirchen.com
