He made a tape of her singing and took it to producer Huey P. Meaux, who took her to Cosimo Matassa's studio in New Orleans. There she cut "You'll Lose A Good Thing" with Mac Rebennack on guitar, though the record wasn't typical of the New Orleans sound, in fact it was more of a bluesy swamp pop ballad. Meaux tried in vain to sell the master, but six months after the session, Cosimo Matassa placed the song with Harry Finfer's Philly-based Jamie label, who pushed it to # 8 on the Billboard pop charts in the summer of 1962. In spite of this American success, UK Decca did not release the disk on its London American label, though it was released in other European countries. Barbara became a regular visitor to the lower regions of the Billboard Hot 100 during the next three years. In 1968, after a move to Atlantic, she had her last chart entry. "I got married and that slowed me down. After the divorce I was able to purse my music more...". Barbara Lynn has still got a band and still hits the hard bars in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. In the mid-'90s she signed with Bullseye Blues Records. "You'll Lose A Good Thing" is available on "The Golden Age of American Rock 'n' Roll, Vol. 4" (Ace CDCHD 500).
