Discovered by Jesse Hill of "Ooh Poo Pah Doo" fame, Barbara had never been in the studio before she brought her self-penned song (based on "Just A Closer Walk With Thee") to Harold Battiste's fledgling A.F.O. label. Benefiting from her pleasing, unpolished vocal and a melodic cornet solo by Melvin Lastie, the catchy tune caught fire and was picked up for distribution by Juggy Murray at Sue Records. Barbara's follow-up, "You Talk About Love" and the flip, "Whip O Will" were two good chunks of New Orleans R&B, and climbed to # 46 in the spring of 1962. George was unable to follow her hits with any other significant records, and by the end of the '60s she had retired from music, save for a brief return in the early '80s, with a few 45s issued on the Hep' Me label. The A.F.O. label was formed in New Orleans by Harold Battiste in 1961. The name A.F.O. stands for All For One. The label was intended to be a co-operative of the session musicians that were playing on most of the records being recorded in New Orleans. The first two releases on the label were "She Put The Hurt On Me" by Prince La La (# 28 R&B) and "I Know". When Juggy Murray signed Barbara George away from A.F.O. to his own Sue label, A.F.O. lost its biggest star and the label declined. CD: I Know (You Don't Love Me No More) - Collectables. Reissue of the 1962 LP, 12 tracks.
