He learned to play guitar at the age of ten and two years later had begun playing nightclubs and honky tonks. By the age of 20, he had joined a group called Tony Wayne & the Rhythm Wranglers. They split after just one single but Wayne soon landed his own recording contract with Westport Records. His first single was a great double sider, Swing Bop Boogie and Sleep Rock-A-Roll, Rock-A-Baby, but it was the follow-up Don't Mean Maybe Baby, that became his most successful, becoming a sizeable hit in southern Texas, which led to constant touring around the Lone Star State. His final single for Westport was Lay Your Head On My Shoulder. He joined the U.S. Airforce in 1960 and that should have been it. However, a cult following began to grow in Europe and he began to tour again and recorded a couple of fine albums for Ronnie Weiser's Rolling Rock label. Me, Phil and Rod went for fish and chips with him in London before a gig and he was as sweet and quiet a man as you'd wish to meet. Recommended listening: Pink & Black Records. The Westport recordings. Rockabilly Daddy - Rolling Rock. The title track is brilliant. Proud Of My Rockabilly Roots. More info: http://www.rockabillyhall.com/AlvisWayne.html
