THE LEN-DELLS - by Al Kelly The Len-Dells or Lendells were from West Philly and recorded under their better known name, The Ly-Dells, who had several hits "Wizard Of Love" and "Maryann". The group also had a release in '64 as the Four Casts with a record called "Stormy Weather" on the big time Atlantic label. Gary Young was the lead and along with Chuck Hatfield & Paul O'Lone wrote most of their songs. The all went to Overbrook High School, famous for Wilt Chamberlain, Dovels and Rick & the Masters. . They had a few releases on small labels out of Philly before hooking up Frank Slay , who held an office at Swan Records in South Philly. Frank Slay and Bob Crewe had a production deal with Swan in the late 50's and were given an office that they operated their XYZ, Southern Sound and SCA labels in Philly. They Lydells/Lendells remain a popular group even to this day. The Reach label was owned by Richie Moore.
