THE FIVE JETS - by Al Kelly The Five Jets were from Detroit, MI and the majority of the group had been the Thrillers on Big Town & Thriller labels. They were also the Five Stars on End Records. Joseph Murphy was their lead on all of their recordings. The group formed in '52 as the Thrillers and recorded for Joe Von Battle's Thriller label (named for the group) in '53. Several of the group members left and the group felt they needed to change the name to theFive Jets. The group signed with Deluxe Records and had five releases. The members changed with each song with one leaving and another joining and several rejoined again too. The group's last recording was for the Fortune label called "I'm Wandering" but the plant personnel made a mistake and pressed the record as the Five Dollars with "You Fool" on the flip side . The group split after this.
